To serve billions of URLs, big tech companies use increasingly longer extensions, with that ugly mixture of lower and case-sensitive CAPs - a scheme known to result in user errors.
And notice how any identical links are just reused among all users - to avoid the need to generate duplicate URLs. This Leads to obvious issues with click stat accuracy and privacy. It's all about slowing down the character count expansion, driven by a need to generate more and more unique URLs to keep up with a massive and growing customer base.
Maybe they offer custom URL slugs like tinyurl.com or bitly? Well, you won't get the custom slugs you really want... the good ones have all been taken by other users. Leaving you with lots of "customized link is already taken" messages.
