Can I use SSL with short links?
SUMMARY
- This is all about protecting your data.
- Follow these straightforward rules for maximum peace of mind.
- Understand the impact SSL has on other components.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is an encrypted link between the web server and the browser. Before using the HTTPS:// protocol with your short links, you must create an SSL certificate for your shortening domain and install it on our servers. How do you do that?
-
1. Go to your Manage Domains page.
2. Click brown padlock icon to open SSL Settings popup.
3. From the popup box, click the "Get SSL-certificate" button.
4. After successfully enabling SSL, a green padlock icon will appear next to your domain.
You also have the option to switch between displaying all of your links with either http or https. How?
- Click padlock icon to get to the "SSL Settings" popup
- Check or uncheck the box next to "Use HTTPS for short URLs."
- It's global and affects:
- The shortening form.
- The "Manage URLs page."
- URL sharing
- QR-code generation.
- It doesn't impact API responses. Why? Short URLs in responses have no protocol prefix connection.
